Not today the cursory glanced acknowledgement
The passing by another tree in happenstance
But one to stop or better yet lie flat to ground
Lift high the eyes and follow where the heart would lead
First tracing ‘long the branches then rising inbetween
Where past and future cease the day to circumscribe
Released the burdened heart takes wing to reunite
Where hand to open hand waits all that ever loves
Now gentle reached this summerland of life’s eternal home

Does it only exist within the ignored darkness
that which light would love but knows not there
Where illusions curl in frightened lonely children
tightly wound to the furthest corners they can bear
In fabric of fear this cloak it smothered your sound
Yet I heard your screams, I felt you, knew you, there
Breath hard yet ‘fraid in loosing to the lost forever
You still beckoned for me to reach you, come to there
Let go I sent in whisper to your dungeons
This trap was kind if you stayed still was your reply
Yet from repeating visits I grew ever closer
Until the day I touched your open hand
As you took your first steps from the darkness
This if no other I will remember all my life
You looked up to sky then turned to show me
There, see, a white horse is in the sky tonight
The child I once was looked up and asked me
Lady knight, will there be a horse for every child?

Watch them rub their hands
men of clay dreaming
they were birds of prey
‘Now This Is What We Want’
they spray their territory
and their women
sit upright
like glass cats
waiting to reflect sunlight
and praying they were real
Who is
the real fool
when shatters glass
and glass
shatters men
in return for endings
that never come
yet women would
like cats
sit waiting for their eyes
to turn to green
for go
to leave
What sunken wreck rose
that day tripping over toes like stones
invisible to children and the old
wavered like a colossal lost meaning
once crucial but when you died
I sneered at wreathes that with the words
did not tie and actions
I looked
shook my head asked why
and more
I asked
what was it all for
that
what she did
but that was when I was a child
I shook my head and walked away
And now
I don’t ask
because I’m old
and long ago came to know
why she cried
And my eyes
yea my eyes
are still green of moss
and amber’s gold

Once they were common to the land
in interaction to mankind
Yet fear of those who turned from the ways
who slew the trees and made the air grey
Crossing waters poisoned to sludge
taught them the hard way only mistrust
Caused them to shudder and back away
retreating past these mounds of decay
Yet in time even man learned disgust
in results of fields now raised to dust
Then sought he out the ways of wild
slowly relearned to be Nature’s child
Sought he out the hearts of gold
and patiently regained their trust
So to these days cross each country wide
the circles ever-widening unite
With Nature’s spirits working beside
ever more men choose to live their lives

Let nature re-embrace
these old once useful forms
Give back to her the ways
we wore like friendling clothes
Finish and be done with
acts lingered past their joy
Release these patterns old
and grained through twilit doors
Rest down each lingered ghost
with understandings light
Lay compassion to each brow
released from what time wrought
Bring peace in gentlest fall
to hallows of love’s ground
Let these flowers cover
the wounds that hurt no more

What star looked down upon you
arose from his seated night
crossed time to this one small blue world
drawn by your whispered sigh
What moved this mighty readers tome
stayed his hand and paused his eye
from these ingenious contemplations
through each aeoned mystery of time
What but lady earth called forth
and to their union life rejoice
their blessing freely given
to you my beautiful child
What then but hearts entwined
his cape forever more enfold
her form reborn shine forth their love
from every opening flower

There are days when the white mist comes
like tiny symbols of infinity holding hand to hand
filling the spaces from ground to sky
seeing only five feet in front of me
making mystery of gate posts and small silenced dogs
at the same time feeling spirits curiosity to rove
yet safely hugged
walking inside a small white cloud
sure can be fun
And there are days of wondering where the Summer went
indoors driven from the icy words
seething from each ferocious wind
bent relentless as though trying to ensure
warm will not be any time soon
huddling by the fire wondering where went the blue sky
find other joys then to aid these wistful times
and knowing that winds but clear away
the past
For there are days of once and yet to be
emerald gold in memory
when standing with the Chestnut tree
before the candle-time
there moments breathing green
hands unfolding their healing power
play an unseen piano to the breeze
reassure the leaning back placed to their trunk
life’s roots go deep
in Summertime
So let these days unfurl as will
and dance the rain and storm and mist
drink in sunlight through the skin
and fear not that the Summer’s gone
for her time of deepest golds are yet to come
and nights where roving blue is claimed in stars that sing
these days these days she will but higher rise
laughing to the Solstice time be of good cheer
and love the earth for she is your inheritance
eternity our ancient mother wise
